Morocco or not? Considering Goa/Cape Verde - pls help me decide!

Hello,

I have found two different 14 night stays for me and my wife to Agadir. Two hotels seem almost identical on Trip Advisor (Kenzi Europa and Carribean Village) and we are considerng all inclusive as both are under £600 pp from Stansted (we live 10 miles away). We are looking to travel in mid-September but are flexible.

Can anyone offer any alternative suggestions for destinations based on the above and our thoughts on going to Cape Verde or Goa (my wife is not keen on too long a flight unles we can geta reasonable priced upgrade to premium economy and I am 6' 5" tall so tend to agree!).

Thanks in advance for your help!

;)

  • hi.

having never been to Morocco, i cant help there... but i have been to Goa & Cape verde - both of which are exceptional but may be out of your price range.....

Goa is fabulous and id go back in a second - its so rich in culture. But its accomadation option tend to be more on the b&b side and quite basic. we stayed in a 3 star place (many are 2 star) for 2 weeks in april, which came to just under £1000 each (donf forget that visas need to be done in advance also)- it was b&b, but it consisted of coffee & toast - eggs etc were extra. Having said all that - eating out is very cheap. 2 course & drinks for 2 averaged about £12.

Cape Verde is very up and coming & its worth visiting before the tourism takes over and ruins it - there already looking to import grass & build a golf course :( but i again i think the budget may struggle. you can do a week AI for about £650 - 2 weeks for about £850/£950.

if you can take a late deal then Cuba could be doable (if you stay in veradero you can visit Havana which is a must) or the domincan republic - the north has more to do (puerto plata) & the south/south east has the stunning beachs.

there are still some really lovely places in Turkey to visit too - and you dodge the euro too.

    hope this helps some!

    Hello,

Looking at Morocco and Cape Verde myself for my honeymoon in October.

I would recommend checking out the weather averages as I was surprised that Morocco can drop quite cool in October and can be a bit rainy.

My mum is a Cape Verde veteran and she likes it but September is the rainy season there, and it is. Has the highest rain fall of all months and she said when it rains, it rains! Its not like every day but if you get the wrong week it could be a wash out.

There is not much to see and do in Cape Verde, fine if you are ok to be a beach bum, Morocco probably offers more in the way of things to do out side of the hotel.

We are thinking about going to Cape Verde, basically because its warmed of the 2 in October and we arent that bothered about leaving the hotel ;-)

Morocco is a fantastic place. When I was there in October it was very hot. It is a really interesting place and you feel as though you are travelling, not just taking a holiday. Standards of cleanliness are completely different to here though, and might not suit if you are looking for luxury rather than adventure.
  • i love morocco and i love the people, i go at least three times in a year. it can be very hot in october. i agree if it is luxury you are looking for then morocco wont suit you. its still my favourite place though

Goa would be my preferred choice over Morroco, plus if you book it early enough you will get good deals, also, you can book Extra legroom, my OH is 6ft 5" and he has to have the Xtra legroom.

I have been to Agadir and thought that it was my most uninteresting holiday compared to Egypt and Tunisia. I did plenty of tours whilst there and found that the locals geared up for tourism, hassled you a lot (lots more than Egypt). I can however, recommend the Iberostar Founty Beach- apparently it's the nicest hotel in the area. We had a lovely stay.

Not much happens in Cape Verde. We visisted Sal a couple of years ago. The biggest piece of tarmac on the island was the runway we landed on. It was all a bit 'Blackhawk Down meets building site' for my liking. There were a couple of descent bars in Santa Maria and it was good for windsurfing.

The big runway (for such a small place) is due to the fact SAA used to re-fuel there in the days of apartheid when the African countries wouldn't give them airspace. They had to fly above Namibia and then up to Europe above the Atlantic ocean. The longer route meant a refuelling stop was needed for the 747s, hence Sal runway was built to accomodate them. Can't imagine anyone ever flying a Jumbo there nowadays.

30-odd years ago, I landed in the middle of the night on one of their JNB-LON flights. We stopped for a couple of hours and they let us off to go into the duty-free. Cheapest fags I ever saw in my life (I still smoked then). However, for 20 years I never knew where I had stopped - always thought it had been on one of the smaller Canary Islands - and it wasn't till Cape Verde started as a tourist spot that I learnt Ilha da Sal was there!

Agadir is not a place i would want to spend a huge amount of time in......there really is'nt alot there only good weather....why not consider catching the local transport and heading up to marrakech, essouria or fez, a couple of hours away on bus and cheap to travel to.....these really are beautiful places, a little north of marrakech are the waterfalls with the wild apes hanging around for food from the tourists......we really enjoy morocco, but luxury and cleanliness may be a little different to what you are used to......bear in mind alcohol, although not illegal is not common too......where ever you decide to go i hope you have a wonderful time....
