Pixel Chix

DD desperatly wants a Pixel Chix for her 7th birthday next week, but I suspect it is only because she has seen them advertised on the tv and doesn't know what else to ask for. As they are really expensive (£30) I want to make sure that it is not just another gimmick that will be forgotten or lost by the end of the day.
Does any one have any experience these toys and can tell me if they are worth the money or if it is possible to get them more cheaply than £30.
She really doesn't know what she wants - any other ideas for a 7yo?!!
Thanks!

Not sure if you can get them cheaper, but i do know my daughter loves her pixel chick. She got it for her 8th birthday and also got the little car that can be plugged ito the main pixel chick (the car was about £15). It has helped that a lot of her friends have pixel chicks as well, so for us, it was worth it. For christmas, she is wanting the new shop (i think its a shopping mall!!!). It does go through batteries at a great rate so thats also worth considering.0

Could she start with a tamagotchi first ("only" about £12) and see how long she plays with it? My 6 yr old fancied a pixel chix so we said if she can keep her tamagotchi alive for a year, we'll consider getting the pixel chix (hopefully the prices will be cheaper next year!).
To her credit, she's managed 6 months without it dying and hasn't lost interest in it.......:rolleyes:0 -

Never done a quote before ... hope that works!
I started my dd with a tamagotchi & made her save her pocket money for it.
She continued to save & now has 3 of them! All her friends in school also have them, which is great.
So when she asked for a pixel chick for Xmas i got her one. She loves it but be warned it doesn't have a volume switch like the tamagochi.
Do any of her friends have one, maybe she could have a play 1st to see if she likes them?
I got mine off ebay from canada ... cost me less than the UK including postage & was bnib.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your replies, they have at least reassured me that Pixel Chicks get played with!!
She has had 2 tamagotchis now which she has cared for pretty well - she says they are boring now which i can understand having spent a few evenings trying to resurect it! (what a great social life I have!!):o Do Pixel Chicks need to be entertained or kept alive - i guess that is another consideration whether I have to keep it going!!
I think we have pretty well decided to get one as she really doesn't know what else she wants.
Thanks for your help

I've asked the expert and DD said ...
If you don't play with it for a while then it will give you attitude when you play with it again & refuse to do what you ask it to! If you leave it for too long the house will get cobwebs & the girl will leave ... then there are just ghosts flying round the house! At that point you have to reset it.

My daughter got one for her 5th birthday and played with it non-stop for ages. Confiscating it was also a really effective punishment so was money well spent in my book! :-)0

I like the idea of one of her toys giving her "attitude" - that sounds like payback!!!
Looks like she will be getting her wish - off to buy one after work!0 -
Thanks for all your replies - thanks button doesn't seem to be working for me at the moment.

Make sure you search online too - there are loads on ebay, a lot less than 30 quid!0
