Barclays not in a position to deal with my complaint?

I have gone through the whole claiming PPI back from Barclays, obtained details of the loan the PPI relates to and wrote them a letter explaining why it was missold etc and then received one back to confirm they were looking into it and would reply within X days.
Well I have now received another letter to state they are not in a position to provide a full response, they aim to do so as soon as possible.
This was sent 9th Dec, I waited to see if anything came after but so far nothing?

Hi there
It seems they all have a backlog to catch up with.
It was the same for us with Lloyds TSB as well, you are entitled to take this to the financial ombudsman service (FOS) just as long as 8 weeks have passed, or discreetly give them your own timescale.
Hope you hear something soon with a good result.
Fingers crossed.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Thanks di3004, not sure whats best to do. Maybe i'll write them a letter asking for a response in say 3 weeks before going through the ombudsman.0

They have not actually had 8 weeks yet. If you sent it on 9 December, that is 8 weeks from tomorrow and FOS would allow a couple of days for the post.
Without seeing the letter, it could be either an update letter or one saying they can't resolve it in time and you can go to FOS if you want.
There is no need to write to them. They will know they have gone beyond the time limit and are on borrowed time.
Another three weeks seems reasonable. If you then go to FOS you can tell them you chose to wait beyond the 8 weeks because of Christmas and the snow etc but that you don't think it is fair to expect you to carry on waiting.0
