Lloyds Unplanned O/D Fee

Hi all, my girlfriend has been charged a unplanned overdraft fee of £21 on her bank account as she went overdrawn when spending money at tesco. She never asked for this to be set up on her account and would of rather the money be denied than taken out and then charged, it was one of them moments of not knowing how much she had in her account. She hasn't set up an overdraft facility because the bank have declined her so can she claim back this bank charge?

if she hasn't had a waive in the last 12 months they should. They will say that by using her card when there was insufficient funds she was requesting an unplanned overdraft0

Your g/f doesn't get a choice, if she tries to spend money she doesn't have, the bank will review the transaction with a view to providing an unplanned overdraft.
If she doesn't want the facility, she needs to look for another bank account ... but most others work in a similar way.
If this is the first time this has occurred, she could see what she can negotiate with the bank; they often waive the odd charge."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
