I know this is not the right forum, but need to vent!!!!
We bought our flat about two years ago, its a converted house and we are on the first floor. We knew the conversion from house to flat was done, i suppose what it todays terms, would be a bodge job! the lay out id stupid and our shower is actually in the old airing cupboard...hard to imagine but it is tiny!!!
Any way we've always had this over flow pipe that hangs from the ceiling above the shower tray. Alwasy wondered what it was but we could only imagine it was something to do with the boiler, and about 6 months ago it started dripping an organgey coloured water...not much just a little bit when the heating came on.
Last night our boiler packed up, we have no hot water and the heating only works when it feels like it so we called a plumber in to have a look and whilse he was here got him to look at the dripping overflow. He saw it in the showe and couldn't work out what it was, so he went into the loft and worked out that its some pressure release pipe and can if the pressure in the boiler gets to much, it will release scolding hot water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he was shocked he said it should be going to the outside and he wanted to cut it off there and then! he said with the problems the boiler has now got he surprised hot water hasn't come out of it already! I'm so F**ked off! myself or my OH could have been under that and got our faces melted off!!!!!
Surely something like that should have been spotted by the surveyour when we bought the place! so want to give someone an ear bashing!!!
Sorry for the long story!! but as you can tell im fuming and OH is out so can't vent at him!

I would be fuming too! and yes I would expect surveyor to pick up on it - but only if we had the full survey done and not just the superficial one which oks the mortgage.0

Yes - full survey?
I'd get your wiring checked!
If there's been massive internel alterations I'd also check that Planning Permission/building warrant has been granted. If not then you need to sort this out. You could make an appointment with your local building officer at the council - because all work should of been passed by them. Now - they are liable if they passed a Building warrant when that over flow was there. Someone could be in bother & you MAY have redress with the Council.0 -
Two years later, I think it comes under the legislation of "tough luck"0
