Hi
This is a website that I came across, just thought I'd share it.:)
BrowserSpy.dk shows you just how much information can be retrieved from your browser just by visiting a page.

No, it's a website, not a program, you don't need to install anything on to your computer to use it.

It's an excellent website, too - amazing to see how much information your browser is willingly handing out every time you visit a web page.

It didn't show much for me - probably because I'm using an almost fresh install of Ubuntu

Try it with IE6 on WinXP - it practically tells you your home address and credit card number :rotfl:

I just did - on the fresh XP VM install I've just done (i'm looking at you Apple (iTunes) ) and it didn't even render properly! :rotfl::rotfl:

And yes, it did provide a lot of info!

It didn't really find out anything unexpected apart from being able to tell I had visited facebook & google recently. I'm running Firefox on Ubuntu so I'd expect it to be more secure than a windows system running IE!

    Hi
It was the eff Panopticlick website that led me to BrowserSpy.
On another thread I started reading about browser anonymity and eff. There's a 3-part series of blogs here:-https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/09/new-cookie-technologies-harder-see-and-remove-wide
    I found it interesting.

In particular I learned about Adobe's LSO 'super-cookies'.

There's note 2 in the small print at the bottom of the Part 1.
It says you can manage them online. You can also shift them with Ccleaner.
The best way (imo) is to use the Firefox addon BetterPrivacy from here:-https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623

    Yes, they are the ones.
You can see the note about using BetterPrivacy addon.
    - If you use BetterPrivacy addon for Firefox you need to change its settings:
With Machinarium running, switch to a Firefox session. Open up Better Privacy’s options. In its “LSO Manager” tab, you will see an entry for machinarium.exe. Highlight the entry and hit the “Prevent Automatic LSO Deletion” button. Better Privacy will now leave Machinarium’s Flash settings alone, but continue to sweep away the bad stuff.

Otherwise, that addon is very simple to use. I've just got it set to flush them away automatically each time Firefox closes.

You know, sometimes people complain that even though they've told Firefox to delete all cookies at end of session, the cookies are still there next time.
It is thought that Adobe 'spawns' Firefox at startup each time, that's why they re-appear - even though Firefox got rid of them.
