Switching from Hydro Electric to EDF

I recently switched electricity provider from Hydro Electric to EDF Energy and my start date was confirmed with EDF as being 24th Dec. I provided a meter reading at this time.
The direct debits for EDF have just started at the 1st Feb, however Hydro Electric have not sent a final bill yet, and yesterday I found that they are still taking the direct debits meaning I am currently paying both suppliers.
I just phoned Hydro and they say they can't produce a final bill as EDF have not yet passed on the final / initial meter reading.
Is this normal for it to take this long? As this is the first time I have changes suppliers, I am not really sure how long this should take. Should I nag EDF a bit more to hurry up and provide Hydro the final reading?
I can't continue to keep paying both providers every month, and I have calculated that I have probably overpaid Hydro by about £180 so far which I am eager to get back from them. (Should I cancel the direct debits to Hydro in the meantime to make sure I don't pay them any more?)
