I'm about to change my broadband provider. Without the knowledge of hindsight, I've always used my Pipex provided email account and not wanting to make that mistake again in future, I'm going to use a free web-based service from now on. I need to decide who to go with, and then go through all the websites I've used my current email address with and change to the new one(s).
My current set-up is my primary Pipex address for really 'trusted' people. eg. friends, online banking. My secondary Pipex address for things like ebay, PayPal, eBuyer, Amazon, insurance acceptances etc. Then I've got a throwaway Hotmail address, for things like insurance quotes, and anything where you have to put in an email address to get past. I also created a Googlemail account when I needed an extra email address to do my uncle's car insurance and Quidco.
So, I thought Googlemail was the way to go. I'm having some second thoughts though. I've forwarded the 19 emails in one of my Pipex accounts to it and there were only 18 shown up, until I realised about the conversation threading thing, and found two Amazon order email confirmations were grouped together. I'm concerned that this will cause problems in future, or are my concerns unfounded?
I've just created an Yahoo account to try, but all the emails from Pipex are bouncing back with an Error 554. I've read that there are frequently problems like this and spam filtering, and don't feel I can trust it.
Although I've got the throwaway Hotmail address, there's just something that makes me not trust it for my 'proper' emails. I know they got hacked a while back.
Is Google the way to go, or is there an alternative?
Cheers!

I like gmail, if only for its superb spam filters, and the fact that I can get my mail on my phone via the handy java app.
If you want to try another, gmx is supposed to be highly regarded, and most definitely worth a look.
Hope that helps,
Regards,

Google Mail does take a bit of getting used to: I remember being sure that some messages were not getting through to me. But then I learned to understand Conversations and now I prefer Google Mail.
It has some good features such as the '+' .Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I have started to use gmx - http://gmx.com/
Always seems to be up and problem free - I have moved from Gmail because I was finding it slow to respond.0 -
Buy your own domain and run your email off that. So you can have me@nemos.co.uk or some such. I use oneandone.co.uk but there may be cheaper and better around.
You can then use Gmail with your own addresses if that is what you want.0 -

Gmail. I have accounts with most of the major providers and it's definitely my favourite.0

Google Mail. I use it to aggregate about 20 different email addresses all into one inbox, and then use filters and tags to organise everything. Truly superb, and completely free.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I've always been a huge fan of GMail. The conversation threading is nothing to worry about as it'll make it bold if there's something that needs your attention, and it's really handy as you have an easy 'conversation history' in one place.Hope that helps,
Mark
