HSBC Credit Card PPI Query

Hi guys,
I'm a little confused here and could do with some guidance.
Back in 2000 (when I turned 18), I was offered and took out 2 credit cards with HSBC (Visa & Mastercard) as they were my main bank where I held my current account. Unfortunately since it was so long ago I no longer have my original agreement papers however at the time the I was under the belief that the PPI was a requirement of the card (I didn't question it as it was my first credit card). Since then the Mastercard was closed off once it expired (in 2007) but I've always had my Visa card, yet Experian report that the Visa started 2002(??).
Over the years, I've had other cards from other banks, but I was specifically asked if I wanted PPI which I rightfully declined.
Now after reading through the details of PPI mis-selling, I'm left wondering was I at fault or was HSBC? Without the agreement papers and considering it was 10 years ago I can't be 100% sure.
Could someone point me in the right direction?
Cheers

Hi, if the PPI was put on the card without you asking for it or being asked if you wanted it then you can always make a complaint. As this was in 2000 though and you do not have the agreement and its now closed your best bet of getting a copy of the agreement and other documents etc would be to get a SAR from them. This would be all the info they hold on you but can sometimes only go back 6 years although others have had things going back further. You do have to pay £10 for this and it can take 40 days for them to send it. There is a template here
