Digital Cameras - A choice to be made

if you have the memory cards to go with the cameras (somehow) take them and test them out in the shop.
see how fast they can be switched on and ready to take a shot
see how long it takes between single shots, and if it takes progressively longer the more photos you've taken
how quickly the user interface responds to button presses
ergonomics
and all the cameras are great bits of kit and not to worry too much about it in the end
lol it was the sony v3 and canon g6 dilemma for me a few years ago0 -
I bought a new digital camera and i did read about the casio so my comment wasn't uninformed. I'm just saying between the choice of the sony w50, fuji f11/f10, and the casio i'd still buy the f10 everytime.
Apologies if you found my previous comment irritating.I'm better off without you.0 -
I'd plump for the Sony Dsc W50 black, it's not based on any experience or expert opinion, it's just the camera that I have been thinking of buying for years now
Trouble is there's always one which is better and a little bit more expensive.
£156.21
from Amazon UK
Anyone found it cheaper?
edit oops sorry, I have been looking @ the DSC W5 for years and strangely amazon has it down for £382.51 but isn't it an inferior camera to the 6MP W50? SO why so expensive @ amazon?
£186 here http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/proddet.jsp?id=1405&cat=14
I find this a useful site

has loads of reviews and a price checker.0 -
Well, I went to have another look round Jessops today. Had a good chat to an advisor and took a close look at the cameras they had.
I have removed the HP from my shortlist and replaced it with the Casio. I also did a comparison of features, price, battery life, weight, in fact everything I thought important and they came out in the following order:
1st. Fuji F11
2nd. Canon Ixus 60
3rd. Casio Z600
4th Sony W50
The other good thing about the Fuji F11 in Jessops is they've just reduced the price to £149.99. You could get it for this online for the past week, but now this is the price in store also. I haven't seen it anywhere else cheaper, so tomorrow I may well go and buy it....if I don't change my mind0 -
Well, I've had my Fuji F10 for just over a year and I'm very pleased with it. Don't think Ive ever used the flash because of the ISO 1600 and the colours are really natural. Great camera (especially at £150!!):j0

Another thing to factor in is the cost of memory, Fuji, Olympus use XD and Sony Memory stick both are expensive, i would try and stick to something that uses SD memory as that is dirt cheap at the moment you can get a 1gb SD Viking card for £11.95 on Amazon.
I currently have the Casio Z750 and it a dam fine camera the pics are excellent and the MPEG4 movies are nearly camcorder quality0 -
I too would avoid HP. I'm having problems with a brand new one, the on/off switch seems faulty and asap need to return it to the shop. On another occasion whilst in Jessops I overheard one of the staff telling a customer HP don't make good cameras. Well, I thought, why wasn't I told that and why are you selling them?? Sure enough mine went wrong very soon after.
Whatever compact you get you'll need rechargeable batteries and a quality charger. There's a thread on that here somewhere.M.E..... MORE than you know0
