Help with jumbled text messages

I hope someone can help.
I am using an LG U300 on a contract with 3.
For the last few days I have been receiving several jumbled text messages each day, which look as if they are from "email". I have the 3mail setting ticked (can't untick it) but no details entered into the settings for an email account. The messages are all jumbled, saying //BREW:0x1o7dfdc etc etc.
Can anyone tell me what this is?

Do you use MSN messenger on your phone at all? When I do I get weird texts in my inbox as a result. I'm also using an LG phone on 3.0
