Please help as i dont understand many things about my pc...
Switched pc on today and a samll box appeared from Windows.
It basically stated that Windows firewall is blocking a connection to 'Java (TM) Platform SE binary'
I have to decide to 1,Allow connection 2.Block connection or 3.Ask me later
I have at the moment decided on option 3 because it is all gobbledegook to me.
Can anyone please advise me,and if it is ok how do i access this blockage to 'allow connection' or do i have to wait for the box to pop up again.?
Many thanks

Is it not the java updater?0
-
I am using windows xp.
I actually assume its ok as i have Jave installed, but its just that i dont understand the jargon.
Any more thoughts please?0 -
Which version of the JRE is it? They're up to Java 6 Update 18 now.0
-
Yes tangleFoot that is the version i have.0

i think it is the java updater(called jusched??), it is trying to phone home to java (sun) to see if there is an update, it is ok.but like others say, its better to be safe than sorry.
personally i disable all updaters and i have a program called secunia psi that is free and it checks my whole system for out of date programs and informs when i need to do this, this saves resources and checks my whole system for out of date programs etc0 -
I agree,it may well be an updater.
I just get paranoid if windows firewall tries to block something(especially a site like Java that i 'trust')0 -
I use Secunia too. Of course it has to "phone home" regularly to get updated info on all the other programs

Right now it is saying that IE8 is still unsafe for use due to the existance of a possible cross site scripting exploit - http://secunia.com/advisories/24314/0
