Dont be daft, its great that you are having a go, but like westcoastscot said dont go fiddling with electricity :naughty: I did once :o, and got a shock :o
Been scared of electricity since when on school. I learnt how to wire a plug, tried it at home and couldn't be bothered putting the back on so plugged it in as it was, palm down on the open plug while i plugged it in. I was only 12 though.:o:D:rotfl:

  • Hi zippychick, that light is really lovely. I emailed my partner to ask him, he says you have to know what you're doing or it can be dangerous - if it was a similar style you could mark the wires but as it's totally different you would need to know which wire was which. Sounds like you'll need to find someone who knows what's what!

I really would not do it yourself, its just not worth the risk, maybe someone else can do it for a cake or beer
  • Changing the light is not terribly difficult but there is a big gotcha to watch out for.

Your ceiling point will probably have 3 twin cables to it - one cable with the power supply, one taking the power on to the next light, and one to the switch.

Do NOT wire all 3 blacks (blues if the wiring's really modern) together. One of those blacks is the live from the switch (it should really have a little red sleeve or tape on it) and it goes to one side of the bulbholder. If you do wire all the blacks together you will blow your circuit fuse or trip the circuit breaker.

    There's a diagram at
    http://www.letsfixit.co.uk/html/electrical_faq.html
but it doesn't show a switch with red/black wiring.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
