Hi All ! I bought me new curtains - but stupidly didn't look up what pencil pleat was....

I now have two brand new sets of curtains with the old fashioned hooks, and a pole rail for tab top curtains! SIlly mare i know.

Any ideas or am i better just taking the rails back and getting a swish rail (of that's what they are called?)

Silly brain of mine. I really don't think i will see curtains anywhere else as nice as these....:A

Wasn't sure whether to take this into DIY section :)

The rail is here . Perhaps I am being silly and you can put these on rails - but can someone let me know as I am feeling particularly stupid at the minute:o

  • Hi,
Why note go to Homebase or somewhere like that and get some rings for your pole? they have ones that are a big ring with a little ring attached (if you see what I mean) - you put the big rings on the rail and use ordinary curtain hooks to hook the curtains to the tiny ring. Just measure the diameter of your pole before you go!
I did this with a metal pole and it looks fab

    Hello Zippy :D

You can get rings for the pole, with a little hook on the bottom to attatch the curtain hook too iyswim, but you may not be able to get them to match your pole, although you may not see the rings once the curtains are attached, worth a look round though.

    xx

Edited to say, just looked at your pole and it says it comes with rings, there might be some in the packaging ???

no it's not a bum job! when i bought mine just as a pole, i went back to the store and they sell rings to match in case you want to use hooky curtains. If the pole has hooks already then you're laughing - its obviously designed for both. Bet it will look fab!

Thanks Redruby! Had a freak out earlier as i thought they wouldn't go! Sorry, wasn't being insulting with my "Bum job" comment he he! Yu know what I mean though!

Redruby - took the hooks out there and they have a little hook below the main hook, so I am one HAPPY BUNNY!

    CRISIS AVERTED!

Can i ask another silly question? I have a light to go up , but it doesnt have a light attachment - where the wire comes down. There isnt one with it, and the light at the minute is a spot light, so if i go to a diy store and ask for a "light fitting" will they know what i mean?

I am new to diy ish things etc. I managed to put a toilet seat and a toilet flusher on last night, and was absolutely delighted and excited (even though i stabbed my palm with a screwdriver several times in the process):rotfl:

Totally understand the bum job worry - you want it to look nice! quite right too. I was lucky the rings matched my pole perfectly, and there was a set like yours that i hadn't seen.

Cant really help with the light fitting, except to say that we recently replaced a strip of spots with a single light - when my partner took out the spots the wires were there in the ceiling (if you know what I mean) and he wired those into the light fitting. He's a (sort of) electrician though - I would be scared to touch it! If you have a go be really careful and turn off the electricity first - might be better to get help with that one though.
Congrats with the loo seat - I just replaced one but they dont seem to 'sit' on my loo properly - however tight I have them they still move when i sit down (i know, tmi ) :rotfl:

He he he! Yes, that's the one. I nearly referred to the wire as string :rotfl:

Ceiling rose. Great. I do feel a silly mare starting this thread you know...... i just genuinely couldn't figure it out!

West - maybe your seat isnt lined up right or tightened enough? It shouldn't move.

Oh don't worry, i won't be touching the leccy! Nearest i get is changing main fuses. I bought this light (the one called H) , and it is in a million pieces! My friend (who is putting it up but doesn't know) is going to kill me.!

Ceiling rose - does that include the wire or will it be up there hidden under my spotlight?

Thanks everyone - i probably sound completely daft being 31 and not knowing:o

  • Ah with you now! a ceiling rose. Our new fitting fits flush to the ceiling, with a glass shade - its an ikea one. You shouldn't have a problem with a ceiling rose.
    happy diy
