you can sign up to "Which" for £1 which gets you a month trial. Then you can read the test results on the car seats for all age groups. There have been a lot of improvements recently and if you are going to spend out it's worth making sure you are taking advantge of the most recent technology.

Cybex do a seat called Solution X which was top rated seat when I bought one a year ago. For older children. They have recently launched Cybex Pallas (you can see the video on You Tube) which is suitable from approx 9 months (from memory) but converts to a Solution X later taking it right up to 11 years.

The Solution X is amazing. When my seven year old falls asleep her head stays in between the side protection instead of falling forward as it used to in her previous seat (which was top rated at the time of purchase).

Which test ease of use, comfort etc etc as well as satety but obviously that's their main focus. The ONLY downside is they don't test every single seat on the market but it does allow you to see what improvements there are and that "common" brands are by no means the best.
MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!

Phone your local council and ask for the road safety officer - they can assist with car seats (and are usually really pleased that people are interested!)
