Barclays Bank Account Application Help !

I have had a Barclays Cash Card Account and E-Savings account now since last year, I only went for the Cash Card Account as a spare account for bills etc to be separate from my LTSB Current Account.

But last Wednesday I applied online for a Joint Current account with Barclays, got back the standard email to say we will write to you in 4 days and let you know, 4 days up I phone them and they tell me that if you already hold a Cash Card account your application will automatically be declined !, and you need to upgrade by going into the branch only.

It seems a bit severe to just automatically decline you because you have a Cash Card account !, is this true ?.

Barlcays term of 'upgrade' means another account. You will end up with two accounts (Cash Card Account & Barclays Bank Account).

According to moneysupermarket.com, they said that if you have a Cash Card Account, you won't be eligible for the Cash Card Account. http://www.moneysupermarket.com/currentaccounts/CurrentAccountDetails.asp?CurrentAccountID=18662&Amount=1

Go to branch and apply for the account.
