Am I being unreasonable?

Hi everyone,

received the bill from my management company yesterday for service charges, management charges the maintenance reserve fund and a years building insurance which totaled £518!

I have since drafted a letter expressing my displeasure at this amount but my question is this; do you think this is a reasonable amount?

in my letter i have requested a run down of charges incurred by the management company to see exactly where my money is being spent

any help would be gratefully received

best wishes

Luke

I'd have thought the management company should supply a set of accounts to the leaseholders every year. I know mine did when I lived in a leasehold flat.

Whether the actual cost is fair or not really depends on what is covered. ie communal cleaning, gardening, routine maintenance, etc.

£500 sounds a very usual amount for service charge. Probably half of that amount is buildings insurance.

I agree that it depends totally on what is covered . Well worth asking for details of what the money is spent on as I feel many management companies do not feel they have to account for their activities so a pertinent question could be a salutary warning. Good luck.:o

thats good!! mine is over a £100 a month! we have regular meetings about these costs as we feel its too much.
In our case its the management charges that are extorinate!

we get a break down every year, pages and pages of info, so i'm sure you should get at least a break down.
