Raaa angry with Sheilas Wheels Home insurance :(

I have been with Sheila's Wheels home insurance for 3 months.
I phoned them to tell them we had a young man staying with us for 6 months and now they have cancelled the policy and charged US a cancellation fee of £60!

Can they do this?

What grounds are they cancelling the policy under?

If the Insurers have cancelled the Insurance because the change in circumstances means that they cannot continue to cover the risk, then they should not charge the cancellation fee.

All you need to do is challenge this with the Sheilas Wheels complaints handlers and ask them to justify this charge in writing. I would expect them to waive the fee.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

  • Hello

I am currently with Sheila's Wheels for buildings and contents insurance.

We are taking in a lodger in the next couple of weeks.

Please could you tell me which insurance provider you went with and how much your fees increased to add a lodger to your policy?

    Thanks

misskerryann - Many insurance companies will allow cover for B&C with a lodger but will require further information.

Some don't allow students, asylum seekers , DHSS.

It may not neccessarily increase your price (depending on the circumstances) but you will probably have some endorsements / restrictions on your cover.

Although saying that, the price that you are currently paying might be affected as you are more restricted in the insurers you can chose.

It would probably be best to speak to a local broker if Sheila's Wheels can't cover you at a reasonable price.

They will probably want details of your lodger's occupation, rental terms, etc.

    Hope this helps.
