Screw paying £100 to recover data. Fix it yourself, it's not rocket science it's just a circuit board with 4 metal pins, open it up and squeeze it so it contacts the board again

I have successfully repaired various memory sticks when they have broken free from the PCB.

If you know anyone with a good fine tip soldering iron ask them to wet the 4 pins on the back of the USB plug and the PCB inside the memory module, this should solve your problem. If you have access to a local college ask one of the lab technicians if he/she will do this for you, they are usually quite helpful.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • I have a Data Traveller 1Gb here and it is a bit plasticky, so very easy to open with a <insert your fav. tool here>
