Saving Gas for Summer

Options
Just been thinking about this as most I have a two tier gas usage, I only really ever get into tier 2 in the winter months.

So I had an idea would it be possible to Enlarge my customer meter reading during the winter months thus being billed for gas not received at the lower tier 2 rate in essence buying gas at the cheap rate to stockpile it over the summer?

It would also protect against future price rises during the summer 2, is thier any law stopping you doing this?

Surely what you are doing is fraud, as you are trying to get energy costs cheaper on a lower tariff when you dont actually consume that amount

You may get found out once meter is read and a hug discrepancy takes place between you metre readings given and actually meter reading it wont be difficult especially if you bills are very low in summer
  • Trouble is i have not had my Gas meter read in over three years they seem only to rely on what i'm telling them

That may be the case, but it would still be considered fraud.

Ntw, the supplier, under the terms of their supplier licence, should read the gas meter at least once every 2 years. They are even expected to get an entry warrant if necessary in order to achieve this.

wouldn't it be less hassle just to change to a cheaper gas supplier, forgive my naivety (electric only house) but is there not a company with a low user scheme?
  • Think i will have to change from direct debit then why is that not fraud the other way
  • you may be better with a flat rate tariff such as ebico if you are a lowish user.
if i were you i would get that meter read you could be in for a shock if the readings they have are out.
they will probably charge the same no of high rate units in summer regardless of the size of your winter readings.
all you would do is make your winter bill bigger than it should be and you will lose dd discounts if you cancel that
