Watch out for Scottish Power
I switched my business electricity supply to Scottish Power last year for a six month contract. I am a small business and paid by direct debit each month and had no problems. This week I received a renewal letter stating that to receive new prices fixed for a year I must call them and may have to leave a security deposit. When I phoned Scottish Power I was told that they required a deposit of £1672 which they keep for one year and that if I default on any direct debit payment they would keep the full deposit. If I did not terminate the contract they would automatically put me on the new tariff and demand the deposit. Nothing about this was mentioned in the letter I received. Small businesses like mine cannot afford to tie up nearly £2000 for a year with the chance of loosing the lot if there is a bank error.

If you don't like the conditions SP have set then don't take up the renewal and go with someone else.0

This isn't to do with the original thread but wanted to rant about SP!!
I only moved to them back in November and have just had my first bill for gas & elec, which at £316 is a bit high but then it has been cold and I have had the heating on more than in the past. Because I had my DD set up at £75 to start off with on their say so, my payments have not met my bill so today I paid the rest on top. A couple of hours later I get a email saying thanks for the payment but because I'm not paying enough each month, they are increasing my DD to £110!!!!
This isn't exactly fair seeing as its my first bill and they don't know what my usage will be in the future. I've written to say I'm not increasing it so there! :mad:0
