MSE way to utilise over stair space in a bedroom?

Hi there,

I have a decent sized space over my stairs in my bedroom. I currently have clothes in it but no doors and it is starting to look a mess. I have been looking for a cheap way to cover it up. Louvre doors from b&q don't seem to fit the space i have 111cm wide and 176cm tall.
What have other people used in this situation that doesn't cost the earth, and is neat, tidy and functional?

Sorry, I can't help but my daughter has a 'space over the stairs' in her bedroom-it's had a stupid 'box thing' built over the slant and I would love ideas too on how we could utilise this space better-her bedroom is tiny with little storage

when I was a student I got one of those extendable shower curtain poles, shoved it in and threw a sheet over it to cover up all the clutter. I'm sure you could make it look prettier than I did!

Could you get a wardrobe, put it in front and then remove the back panel of the wardrobe so you have a deep space behind it? A bit like narnia?

If the doors do not fit the space then you will need to alter the space to fit the doors. It really is not difficult to frame up the opening into a square and make the opening the size of the doors that you want to fit. If you can't do a bit of simple woodwork or know someone who can do it for you then you are a bit stuck.

If you want to do it cheaply you can get MDF cut to size at B&Q and fit that instead of off-the-shelf doors? Paint the MDF and put some nice handes on it?

We've got one of those in my daughters bedroom.

We've put a piece of wood on the top and varnished it and put the changing mat on there, and there's plenty of room at one side to stack nappies, wipes etc.

She's nearly out of nappies now, so we were going to either:

Stick a piece of wood on the top that overhangs one side by about a foot to make a huge desk and her legs and chair will tuck under the overhanging bit. We'll put shelves on the wall for books and storage.

I've seen on another site, where someone has built cupboards on the floor alongside the block and then put a mattress on the top to make a cabin bed.

Could you build some sort of base for your mattress, so having the bed there and leaving more floor space free.

Thats exacty what we did, using a basic bunkbed from Ikea, and canablised it to fit (just using the top bunk and legs, and fitting patresses to the wall for extra support), the bedroom over the stairs was the smallest and lots of buyers were put off by this, it helped us sell the house, it also gave a lovely 'reading den' under the bed too, very cosy!
