If you want to be a shill-bidder register in Germany

Hiya

I strongly suspected a German seller was shill-bidding on his auctions so I tried to look at what his alleged German-based buyer had bid on before. I got this messge from Ebay instead.

Has anyone else come across this?

Yeah I've seen that before. Germany have one of the strictest data protection laws in the EU.

That will explain why you can't search for completed items in Germany which is very frustrating when you want to target them!!

    yep.
I'm still determined to get a german ebay account. They seem to base registraton on there equivalent of the electoral register - but I have a cunning plan I'll get round to one day ;+)
btw - I don't want it for shilling

I didn't realise you couldn't search for things in germany? Does this also apply to german users who list on ebay UK? Can you not search those either, or does that fall under our laws?

Just incase anyone isn't familiar with the term, Shill bidding means having a phantom account that pushes up the price of an auction.

Me4bargains is only pointing this out as a point of frustration.

Shill bidding is ILLEGAL, and can incurr legal action against individuals, so don't actually go and try to register an account for this :)
