private sales and shop receipts

I'm (hopefully) selling my ps3 to a lad tomorrow. The machine works fine, but to be sure I want to give him the shop receipt that came with it which i have kept. The store offers a years warranty (now valid till October) in case of fault (except user mishandling), so the receipt covers this (though not explicitly, just as a proof of purchase).
I paid for the item using my debit card, so my question is: if there is a problem and the lad has to take it back to the shop will he have any problems as he wasn't the buyer (ie it's not his debit card). I would assume not, since people buy things on cards as gifts all the time, but I would hate for unncessary complications and I'd rather it be out of my hands shoudl any problem occur. Thanks.

Hi I work in customer services and in our store we have to refund onto the card originally used. Perhaps you could check with the particular store to see what their policy is. Hope this helps.
p.s If I were you i would also keep a copy of the reciept, coz you never know.0 -
I wanted to give him the receipt; i don't think it would look good if i have to keep it.0

take a photo copy0

The shop would be unlikely to refund if it went wrong at this stage. But the buyer should have a copy of the receipt in case something does go wrong and Sony want proof of purchase, as it'd be much easier to go to them.Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I'd agree with Esqui here. If it was bought last October, then a refund is very unlikely at this point. I'd just give him the receipt as proof of purchase for any warranty claims, or future claims under SoGA.0

I'm specifically referring to a store warranty which covers the console for 1 year; if it gets breaks down they will exchange it for another.
Surely it shouldn't matter who purchased the machine, so long as valid proof of purchase (which is all that's needed for the warranty) is presented.
This is separate from any action taken under statutory rights. Though the question is equally valid concerning those as well.0 -
The SOGA wont apply receipt or otherwise.
The purchaser would have to fall back on the sony warranty for which they would likely need the receipt.0 -

Too true. The rights are only with the original purchaser under SoGA. I suppose with a receipt, the shop could deal with the new owner, but I know how much people hate it when shops diverge slightly from the law.Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. Caveat Emptor, what right does the buyer in a private sale have to a reciept0
