Tsb Overdraft Charges

Hi all,

Need some advice please, sorry if this has already been asked but im browsing via my phone and can't search the forums or i would be here all day!

TSB are charging me a £21 overdraft fee for going over by 60p, of course im not at all happy about this , first time i've ever been overdrawn in over 20 years. I'm going to call them later when i get a chance but in the meantime is there anything i can do or say to get out of this? If they insist on charging me for this i will be closing my account and going elsewhere but that will be a big inconvenience so it would be a last resort.

£21 for 60p seems a bit extreme...any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Did you know that 6 out of 7 dwarfs are not happy?!

  • Contact LTSB & remind them that this is your first ''offence'' in over 20 years as a customer. Politely ask them to waive the charge on this occasion.

Then set up a small arranged overdraft of £25 - £50 in case you accidentally go overdrawn again. In future you would pay interest but no charge.

Thanks for the reply Thomas, I have a meeting with the branch manager on Thursday, it was already arranged for a couple of weeks ahead to discuss my account etc but i called today and managed to bring it forward to this week so we will see what she says. If she does refuse i will be closing my account and going elsewhere, it's a ridiculous charge for 60p!

It certainly is ridiculous, however as a first offence in 20 years I'd find it incredibly hard to believe that they won't refund it.

... Time was (I remember this happening to a friend) if you've run your account impeccably but went a tiny bit over for the first time after years of good running, they just automatically give you an overdraft. Lloyds TSB did this with one of my friends about five years ago... for shame they didn't do it with you!

  • TSB went down hill the moment Lloyds took them over. Good luck with the bank manager.

I would be extrememly surprised if they do not waive the charge. Hopefully you will have something positive to post on here after your meeting. All the best.

Thanks i might give that a go as the bank cancelled on me today!

Edit, Gave them a call and the guy was really nice, told me he would waive the charge for me and said himself it was a ridiculous charge for 60p.

Didn't think it would be that easy to be honest!

Thanks for the advice all and especially to you iereboy! :T

    Glad to be of help!

Don't forget to have a small AUTHORISED overdraft just in case it happens, as you'll be covered for small amounts.

Use internet banking to check your balances, sign up for the free weekly text alert service.

It sound like this will never happen again if its your first time in 20 years! But who knows we're still in a recession despite what the media says and people who manage their accounts well all their life have been hit with unfair charges.

    Glad it worked out well
