How come windows 7 is so cheap? under £7!

I pre ordered Windows 7 from PC World and paid about £40 or £50. When it arrived I loaded it and loved it so I was looking on ebay for another copy and saw a license key for about £6 so I paid and instantly got a key through my email. So using my PC world DVD (Home premium) I loaded Windows 7 on another PC and entered the £6 key and it worked. This was about 6 weeks ago and it works great and updates just like my PC World key.
I keep seeing these Windows 7 keys on ebay for 6 & 7 quid and after a day the auctions get removed but they all get good feedback and all seem to work.
I just wondered how come they are so cheap and work?

because there stolen / hacked keys

Windows update also acts as a security tool for MS, every once in a while it will update and block these keys, one day you will turn on your computer and it will tell you that your key is phoney.

Anyone with a genuine unregistered copy of Win 7 could easily get £40-60 for it on ebay

actually they are not stolen keys they are keys that microsoft issue under terms of msdn programme. however that said they should not be available to the general public or be sold on e-bay, or be spammed on here by op.

I paid about £5000 for my Windows - but then I got a 10 year warranty and lovely white uPVC surrounds. My house is so warm and cosy now ... :)
