can anyone give advice on this issue

my gas metre is pay as you go prepayment card
my supplier is ebico
i pay no standing charge
i have debt it comes of at rate of £5 every wed

I have this week had a combi boiler installed and curious to its proformance compared to the old convection system removed i started taking readings as I use. I have noticed that my credits on metre are going down dispite not having used any gas.

Example been on sunday morning i took my reading before the daily use my credits stood at £15.60 10 am ,, i then took a bath 1130am and used 1 sink water for dishes i took futher reading at 1130pm that evening having used nothing more, i even turned combi boiler off postion as i like save on electric too,,,£15:48 was showing on credits at that reading time.

I wake up yesterday Mon 1 feb 1pm and checked the reading an dispite eveything been off boiler and cooker unused all night my credits had moved to £14:66 82p diffrence :O(.
I rang up ebico knowing its always southern electric staff i speak too and the fella said i need to allow for gas to settle back in pipes after use and metres takes an hour or 2 to settle an re register. I took in what he just said and told him he must not listned to me because i last used gas midday on sunday turning eveything off an took reading 1130pm that evening an 12p had been used an metre would had 12 hrs to sttle goin of his theory ,, yet it moved over night in 11 hrs to £14.66 ..

He advised me to use nothing all day an take a reading last thing at night he asked me for my digets on metre which i give aswell as my £14.66 credit figure.. I have to ring him tomorrow with any changes.
I have took a reading since this conversation with supplyer and my credits have agin moved to £13.75 from £14.66, 91p loss of credits in another 12 hr period dispite not having cooked all day nor takin a bath or even switched the boiler on from off postion :O(

What is going on ? what can cause this loss of credits on metre as stated before an confirmed in convo yesterday with supplier my debt comes on in whole £5 every wednesday and i do not pay any daily standing charge so all that comes off my merte is raw usage and £5 on wednesday. My metre should not be lossing nearly £1 in 24 hr period ,, thats what i use normally belive it or not

can some 1 please tell me what can cause this im finding it hard to manage paying what i do let alone see my metre tick down without usage

many thanks for any advice an even more thanks for time taking in reading this biblical post

The £5 will only come off when you top up after Wednesday.
If you don't top up one week, it can recover this from the credit on the meter.
It does this at 2am in the morning, and takes one seventh each morning until it has caught up again.
Have you missed any weeks recently?
  • hi thanks for your reply
yeah this is what was explained to me by a representative on my 2nd call having spent a day not using any gas to take reading on their instruction. when i rang on day 2 the rep said oh i can see what happening an explained what you mentioned above, which leaves the question why did rep 1 on day 1 not tell me this rather send me on a mission to not use gas for whole day

all sorted tho thanks for help swan jon
  • Just a question does your new combi have a button on it that says Eco or something like that

Ours is a Combi but has an Eco button which if its not showing red on the button then it keeps heating a storage tank in the boiler to keep a small amount of water warm for instant use. If we turn this off then it does not use the gas to keep the tank warm and only heats the water when the tap is used

  • 3 nobs i have a thermostat knob for heating and 1 for water
3rd nob is off function water/heating setting or water only
the storage tank was removed so i dont think that function excists on mine

lol my last old convection system i used have blow pilot light out lol i swear you could weld with it it was designed along time ago when gas was cheaper an i could done a pan broth on size of the old systems pilot light,,,i did turn it down but service man give me wrong... sayin wind wil blow it out if not right setting for pilot light, but id blow it out anyway an the cut off mechanism would kick in
  • What make and model of the boiler is it mate

    Chris
  • al i can find on mannual is promax combi HE plus range when i pull flap of boiler down ther stickers ther but i need reading glasses to read font that small if its specific number you requiring
  • When you are using the heating on the boiler do you have both the water and boiler dials set to max on the boiler then control the temps of each room with the valves on the rad's

well im just really findin my feet with it was only installed 5 days ago .. for water i have dial on full an run bath pipin hot by time it fills it hot enough to add touch cold an get in altho i be best turning water dail down an get the temp right without using cold tap..obvisious reason been why heat water to cool it waste of ebnergy
but i was told by me dad who had his a year that it depends how warm watercomes out ground so to get thsi perfect temp i guess we have to get used to how hot it gets to different tempts outside in relation to dail setting

the heater dial i have 60 then i moved it to 52 of 80 and kept the radiator tap control kobs just on high i haven't really figured that much out as yet altho next week -12 prediction i bet its on full lol.. all ive done for this week is do as above an take daily readings of usage an took notes of my usage
then i planned to tweak it abit to get best cost effectiveness out system

    hope this helps
