Finding out own criminal record

Oh I know...if I go ahead with the application I will be disclosing.
However at the moment I'm minded to forget all about it. There's just no way a school is going to take me on - I am in legal terms a violent criminal.
I think that you should disclose, schools are more concerned about sexual crimes. In the eyes of the law you have "repaid" your debt to society and "youthful" exuberance should not be held against you. Honesty is the best bet - if they cannot see that you are no longer the same person as you were when these "crimes" were committed - would you really want to work for them? I would not - I hate double standards of any description in life. Good luck with your application - let us know how you get on!!;)0 -
Just found this on the CRB which you may find useful>
Further Information
If you would like more information about CRB or its service why not visit our website http://www.crb.gov.uk/ or call us on 0870 90 90 811. (Telephone calls are charged at national rate. Calls will be recorded for security and may be monitored for training purposes.)
Hope this helps!;)0 -
Employers will look at the nature of the conviction(s) and how recently they occured. If I was you I would apply for the post and if you don't get it ask for feedback. If you get feedback that relates to your convictions as a reason for you not getting appointed then at least you will know for the future.
IF you do get an interview, do as terra_ferma advises and accept responsibility.0 -
Don't be too demoralised, there are plenty of jobs out there that don't required a CRB check, you'll find the right one for you.

That list of jobs is growing smaller by the day though, Terra_ferma0

I do not think you should be so defeatist. And anyway, you are not a violent criminal in any terms: you are someone who was convicted of criminal offences, including violence, a while ago.Oh I know...if I go ahead with the application I will be disclosing.
However at the moment I'm minded to forget all about it. There's just no way a school is going to take me on - I am in legal terms a violent criminal.
You are, to my mind, a good role model. Young people make mistakes. Hopefully they learn from them. If the message they get is "Mess up and you can NEVER have a career in X, Y or Z", that's not very encouraging, and can lead to a line of thought which goes "I've messed up, I'll never be able to do X, Y or Z so why should I even try?"
I do not know what it's like in teaching, but I know plenty of youth and social workers whose CRB checks would make 'interesting' reading!
The important thing is that it's not recent, and it's not habitual now (even if it was then, although it doesn't sound as if it was particularly habitual for you). Oh, and that it's not sexual or offences against children: that, I admit, WOULD be a problem!
And as I said before, with fewer and fewer people having a virginal CRB, your chances may well be better than you think! Plus, as Obi says, if you don't try, you'll never know! Not that you'll know this time if you don't get through, because they won't tell you why, I don't suppose.Signature removed for peace of mind0
