cant win with halifax

Can any one help. Put all my debts with consumer credit a few yrs ago and all has gone well except for Halifax l owed them £4ooo when l started and have paid them regularly as advised but they still insist l owe them £4000, have not stopped interest and are not helpful when l phone. I have actually paid them their money over the years Got the Ombudsman to contact them and this was back in Dec have had letter from Halifax saying they are very busy and will deal with it on or before the 19th Feb, meanwhile l am still paying and they are still adding interest. will never ever be free of this debt, Can anyone help:(
