Cheapest Insurance for new driver?
I am looking at buying a car and trying to work out costs, etc ready for when I've passed my test, however I'm having problems with the Insurance.
I got a quote from Churchill which was £2200 but then I realised I'd put that I'd had my driving license for 3+ years. When I changed it 0 years, it said using the details I provided, they couldn't provide me with a quote. I have tried Churchill and Aviva and Direct Line and get the same message on all 3.
Does the 'Period license held' include provisional or just the full license?
Can anyone recommend a cheap insurance provider for newly qualified drivers (and I am 25 years old).
Thanks in advance

Admiral. Admiral. Admiral. Did I mention Admiral?:D
No seriously, i'm 25 and have had my license for a month. Admiral is always the cheapest quote for me. Try a few comparison websites (eg comparethemarket.com) and also the admiral website.
A big part of your quote will be your risk postcode... which you cant change unless you move address.0 -
Do you mind me asking what car do you have and how much is your insurance? (no prob if you don't want to answernewfoundglory wrote: »Admiral. Admiral. Admiral. Did I mention Admiral?:D

Dont have a car yet... haven't decided what to buy. I can give you some idea of the quotes I have had, but I live in South London in possibly one of the highest risk postcodes in the UK. This adds about £700 to my average premium vs. my previous address in Surrey. Therefore i'm not sure which would be useful to you.0

Thanks, I too live in quite a high risk postcode. What sort of car have you found to be the cheapest? Just got a quote with Admiral for one car I saw and it was £1960newfoundglory wrote: »Dont have a car yet... haven't decided what to buy. Get a quote from Admiral through comparethemarket.com
Make sure when it says do you want to add any additional named drivers.... add one of your parents who has had their license for a long time, has their own car, and who hasn't had any accidents in the last 5 years. Where it asks about access to any other vehicles, click yes. All of this should reduce your quote for that car. Give it a go and see how much you save using this method.
The cheapest car quote I have found is, rather unfortunately, a Ford Ka. Not sure I can bring myself to buy one of those!0 -
Wow - Thanks, I have added my fiance's mum (as my mum lives quite a distance from us) and it knocked £500 off the pricenewfoundglory wrote: »Get a quote from Admiral through comparethemarket.com

I couldn't fit in a ford KA lol, will have a look at fiestas and puntos though.
EDIT: Do you mean I should tick that I have regular access to another car even if I dont? Ta0 -

No you cant lie... but I know the comparethemarket website asks whether you OR any named driver had access to another other car. If your named driver does, which is more than likely, you can tick yes

Just so you know, a quote from Admiral's website was £200 cheaper than comparethemarket for me. May be worth a try for you?newfoundglory wrote: »No you cant lie... but I know the comparethemarket website asks whether you OR any named driver had access to another other car. I think we should compare it with the market and if it is giving difference then we should go for it !0
