Hi
I used to have an account with abbey, mixed up in charges it was there fault but I couldnt prove it, quite confusing to explain they owed me money but were asking me to give it to them. Anyway I was young and went for the stick my head in the sand aproach. Today I recieve a letter from Santander saying
net balance 143.04 22/01/10
My question is does that been I still have the account and it has 143 quid in it or ?? what is "net balance"?
I tried ringin the number on letter only to be told by auto service "we know we sent you a statement your bank has been took over by another company if not heard from them please wait and you will"
I have not dealt with abbey in long time I no longer have any detials thou sort code and account number is on letter head.
Could they have relised it was there fault and fixed it?
Where do I go from here can I get the money from them close the account and ask fro cra to be updated settled account with no defaults?
Or am I dreaming
Any input would be great.
Cheers
Jim

Does the letter have any sort code or account number on it. Can you go to a branch with some form of ID and the letter? Net balance means there is some money in account and it looks like they will give you your money back. however prepaed to be patient. it may take a bit of a time given the unusual circumstances...
if that fails you can write to the bank on address given on letter (assuming there is one)...0 -
This letter means you still owe them. You dont have a 'windfall' waiting for you!0

To me, this sounds like your account has been sold to a debt collection agency. It's the "wait to hear from them" which makes me think that.Originally Posted by Dr Cuckoo3
