I thought was for help and support of people considering or already in an IVA.

Would the people who only come on here to slag off IVA's and basically telling everyone who has an IVA that they should go bankrupt as that is the be all and end all of debt management and sorting out, kindly begger off back to the bankruptsy board where there are many people who have come out of an IVA, who claim they were mis-sold, therefore all IVA providers are the devil incarnate and should be stopped. (there are also many people on the BB who dont claim that at all, Im not saying for a minute that there are !!!!)
This board has been troll less since it started - would be terrible if they are allowed to creep in now !!

For everyone else genuine on here who want to try to HELP others, please keep going!!!!!

Well said. Public debate is welcome - its fairly easy to cut through the half-truths and lies but they're not terribly helpful, and really only serve to further muddy already murky water!

  • 2nd that Trudi -thanks:)
  • Couldnt agree more.

I entered my IVA with eyes wide open and signed on the dotted line. Mine worked out well and I am now able to rebuild again.

It helped my family (and with my job).

They arent for everyone, but they do help out with more than enough others that need them.

  • I completely agree with you Trudi, It's nice that someone has came out and said it.

Again, my IVA worked for me and has taught me one hell of lesson about the true value of money and living beyond your means!

Yes, IVA's aren't for everyone, but for those of us who are trying to put our lives back together post or pre iva. Please leave us alone!!!

    Trudi for President :-)

I am in total agreement. I to went in to IVA with eyes open wide. My IP had explained all the options including bankruptsy. Yes BR was cheaper overall for me, but I have a conscience and am not doing this as a fast way of dodging the bullet. I want to pay my creditors back, after all I took the money. I was just stupid about it

So please, if you do not want to constructively contribute then dont

    I agree as well Trudi.

I think debate is good, and I think some new posters come straight to the IVA board need information to make sure that they are choosing the right option for them in their circumstances. All too many people who post are completely unaware of the implications/ suitability / alternatives to IVAs, but simply suggesting that IVAs are unsuitable for everyone or are a '5year bankruptcy' is not going to help those posters.

Of course there are people who post on here who sell IVAs for a living, but providing they are here helping posters and are not trying to sell IVAs directly through the board then their opinions are welcome and needed. If anyone is actually seen trying to sell IVAs then they should be reported

I'm far from pro-IVAs but I know there are people for whom they are a sensible option.

Balanced views and debate are useful, but essentially the board should be about trying to help, advise, educate people who are struggling financially. Turning numerous threads into slanging matches helps no one.

I totally agree. Just because some dodgy TV ads claim they can use a "little known piece of Government legislation" to wipe off a huge chunk of your debt it seems that IVAs in general have earned a bad reputation in some quarters. Of course there are companies out there that are total shysters, earning shed loads of cash from human misery. But there are also plenty of reputable firms that will run an IVA only when it is appropriate and are totally upfront about their charges. It is an option worth considering when you are in a fair amount of debt - might not be feasible when worked out on paper, but worth investigating.
