Looking at my credit agreement, (version ACS1 0058 JUN 09), signed on 02/11/2009:

T&C that came with the agreement:

Did they actually contact the OP?

(referring to)...Before we do this we will contact you to determine whether you intent to make any further transactions on your card.

What I quoted was for account dormancy e.g. £0.00 balance or no transactions for 6 months.

I think the OP is claiming that Santander said they cancelled the direct debit due to it not being used for 3 months but I don't see any hard evidence for this and cannot find this on the website.

Yeah, I sort of realised that as i was browing through some other threads - two different issues really, I agree.
  • I have literally just opened a Santander account, so I am reading a lot of threads about them at the moment. There seems to be a trend at the moment, every bad thread I have read about Santander the OP seems to suggest they switch to Nationwide :rotfl:
Best Comp wins[/B]: , Holiday to Las Vegas worth £3K, £200 shoes, £130 ASOS voucher, £150 River Island Voucher, £100 Toni & Guy Voucher, £250 Red Letter Day Voucher, Holiday to NYC[/COLOR]
  • I emailed Santander asking about the direct debit. Only got an auto-reply but will update everyone if they reply about their policy.
  • :undecided The reply from Santander - no solid answer about the period a DD is active for.
Thanks for your e-mail regarding Direct Debits.

If the direct debit is being set up on your Santander Current account then it will remain active on the account but no funds will be claimed if you make a payment to your credit card via another method, however if you are setting the direct debit up with another bank you will need to check their policy on direct debits.

I hope you find this information useful.

    Regards

    Santander Customer Services
My advice, remember to check your statements.

i'm facing same problem with abbey santander zero card since nov 09.I'm paying in full since nov through online banking and my card is not inactive at all since i have got the santander.I have spoken to cs twice but no help at all.I believe there is a fault with santander and they should stop blaming the other banks.I can see direct debit of santander listed in my online banking but still they are unable to take any payments out. I had similar problems with o2 3 years ago and it took them 4 months to take the first payment out.
  • I have had tremendous problems with my Santander Zero Card account, where on three occassions now the direct debit details have been erased, resulting in my card being blocked, and yes the £12 fee + interest.
On each occassion they have explained that they have a software problem which they are well aware of, have refunded my charges and credited my account with £10 for my inconvenience.
I got the card because of it's zero % when used in other countries, but it simply is not worth the hassle (or the stresses on my bloodpressure!), and I am closing the account.
I can't risk my credit rating being affected by missed payments.
PS - I have found their customer services team in Milton Keynes rude, unhelpful and totally ineffective - it's almost impossible to speak with a supervisor or to progress a complaint with them.
  • Update - response from Santander Customer Services

After writing my polite but firm letter re. my DD being cancelled after 3 months, I have received a very nice apologetic letter from Mrs Tracie Albert, Customer Complaints Administrator at Santander.
Whilst she is sorry that there are no plans to amend company policy at this time, she has refunded my £12 fee and sent me a lovely hamper of cheese, wine, sauces, biscuits etc. in the post.
    Well done Tracie !! :T
