Cancellation Fees?

Options
About 2 weeks ago, my mum signed up with Scottish Power after they came knocking on the door. We were told we could get a better deal with them and had 2 weeks to change our mind.

Fast forward 2 weeks and we have just received a call from British Gas who basically told my mum that she wouldn't save any money and offered a better tariff than before.

BG seemed to think that we would be able to claim back/refuse to pay any cancellation fees as she was missold the product by Scottish Power. Can anyone shed any light on this please.

Have you checked for yourself which is the best rate for you? Don't take British Gas's word for it, double check as they phoned and told me they were cheaper and not to change when I switched. It was complete lies.
  • Thanks for replying. Yes we have checked and the new deal with British Gas is at a better rate, we would just like to know how to go about cancelling with Scottish Power, without incurring cancellation fees if at all possible, as we feel that things were not expained thoroughly.

Tell BG that you will stay with them if they sort it out and pay any cancellation fees. You could also mention erronous transfer to Scottish Power but there shouldn't be any cancellation fees.

Also have a look through the forums about Scottish Power doorknockers.

  • Thanks ever so much st999, will get onto British Gas tomorrow. They told us that we had been missold, so will hopefully help us. Any chance you could provide a link for threads on the Scottish Power doorknockers, I've had a quick search, but being new on this forum it all seems so huge! Many thanks again for being so helpful.
  • be careful abut the advice given above and by BG, you will only have been miss-sold if you were told it was cheaper than your EXISTING tariff and it wasn't. The new offer from BG is a separate issue.

Is she still within the cooling off period? If so, there won't be any cancellation charges.
