Joist in loft has dropped

Hi,

I was going to replaster my bedroom, but there is a significate bow in the ceiling, when I went into the loft the joist has dropped. I dont know what to do, can the whole joist be replaced? Pushed up? it does go across the whole of the roof. Covering 2 rooms upstairs. I want to smooth over the artex thats on the ceiling at the moment.

Any ideas?

Kind Regards

Richard.

The joist can be replaced. You need to work out why it has dropped?

Has it warped, rotted, snapped, had to much wait stacked on it, has what it is resting on done any of these?

Are the joists each side of this one ok?
  • Once it has warped it wont return back into place.......
    Not Again

Yeh, the plasterer did say its not going anywhere. But I was worried by the fact is it safe? He did give it a good old push here and there, and whist there was movement, he said its ok.

The joists next to it are fine, no problems else where. Its a 1890's end terrace.

or....someone mentioned about getting a ceiling rose, and the fabric pleated out from that to all the sides of the room.

    Anyone tried this?
