Confused about the pipes at Boiler

I have got conventional boiler in the integral garage and hot water tank in one of the bedroom (water gets heated by hot water pipes only, no immersion heater) . Looking to various diagram
http://wiki.diyfaq.org.uk/index.php?title=Image:Trunk-branch.gif I think there suppose to be only two 28 mm copper pipe attached to boiler (one feeding in and another hot water coming out) but I have got one more 22 mm copper pipe enters in the boiler and it is always cold, so I wonder what is this for ??
I want to know as I am thinking of fitting lime scale remover. I would appreciate help and advice....
