Does anybody know what the usual minimum stay period is for self-storage facilities, please?

A month I think. I'm in the middle of putting stuff into storage (it's 10 miles away so taking me awhile to keep motivated). I've paid/booked for a year as I know I thought I'd need it for 3 months, but I also know that things have a habit of changing, so I booked for a year just because these things easily drag on as life changes around you daily.

Each one will be different though, so you need to phone and ask them.

You can store for a day if you want.

Google for 'self storage' and look at prices and T & Cs.

The main differences to ask about are:
    - is this self-storage where I can come and go whenever I like to put stuff in and take it out, or does it go into a sealed box and get taken away to a warehouse where I have to give 2 days' notice to get at it each time and pay a fee each time?
    - what hours are you open?
    - do you charge by the week, or is it calendar monthly? The difference here is if it's by the week you'd pay on 1st of a month (say), then on the 29th, so you can pay twice in some months. If it's calendar monthly then you just pay once a month on the same date (easier sometimes to remember the dates and what you've paid.)
    - do I have to provide my own padlock? Usually you do and you're only allowed one padlock on the door. This is so they can fit a 2nd padlock to it if you don't pay your bill.

The nearest place to me I could come/go was 10 miles away (took ages to even track that one down) and they're not open on Sundays at all. I have to sign in and out in a book (fire regs). If I ask he'll open a roller shutter door (not usually needed)... there are some trolleys inside but I still have to carry my stuff up a metal staircase to get to the trolleys. So it's a good idea to go and have a look at which would be "your bit".
