How To Find Genuine Work From Home Jobs

Options
Hi! I already work part time in the evenings but am looking for a work from home job that I can fit in while the children are at pre school, 3 mornings a week and any spare time I have. Not sure where to look for genuine work e.g clerical or admin. If anyone has any ideas I would be extemely grateful :)

  • How about approaching local small companies to find out if they need any help with data processing, account organising, contact list maintanance etc? If you're local you should be able to pop in for a few hours now and then to pickup / drop off work and then work from home whenever you can fit in the time.

I guess it's all about how you sell yourself -
    1. You're offering a necessary service
    2. It sounds as if you have experience
    3. You're obviously good at time-management and can remain motivated

As you're looking for a role with a trust element (will you do the work asked in the agreed time period) I suggest you contact potential employers with face to face meetings and have a prepared CV/or equivalent with you. It may take a while to find something but try going around the local independent shops / restaurants or checking out your nearest industrial estate and see if they have some clerical 'overflow' or big projects coming up which need someone with computer skills for a short while.

It's probably worth putting together a list of recommendations too that you can show potential employers. Something simple like a page listing several recommendations (each one could simply be a few positive sentences together with a name of the referrer, job position, dates and company name) can demonstrate that you're an asset which any right minded company needs.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice! Will try to find some local businesses to approach, the only problem is I live in quite a small town so there isn't much work around. I was hoping there might be some sort of online work that could be done no matter where you live. Thanks again for advice I will try to think of some businesses to approach. :)
  • Online work does exist but you have to be very wary of scams.
Generally if it sounds dodgy then it is - although you may be interested in trying some of the freelancer sites such as People Per Hour or FreelanceXchange.
(Although I haven't used these myself - anyone got any experience using them?)

If you're in a very small town it might be worth emailing companies in a nearby city but I'd still expect you to have to go in fairly regularly so you can make sure everything's on track and that they're happy with your work...

As another idea - have you approached local schools, playgroups or community organisations to see if they need some clerical help for a few hours a week?

I work 11.5 hours a week as Clerk to Community Council (This would be Parish Council in England). Apart from one meeting a month in the evening, all the other work is done when I want throughout the week.

The pay is good, and I get a pension through the Local Government Scheme and annual leave. Keep a lookout for these jobs in the local paper, on village/town noticeboards.

The only downside is I can get calls at all times of the day but have a separate mobile phone for this so can turn it off!
