Same here. Old shell card no longer works. New Citi Card arrived but existing PIN does not work. Now letter reducing credit limit from 5k to 1750. Was paid in full each month (around 1k balance) by direct debit.

They will get a letter this afternoon cancelling account. I can live without it, not that cashback has been cut.

I got one of these letters too (ex EasyJet) and i'm not overly impressed with the wording in the letter, which implies its ME at fault, when it would appear its THEM who have issues.

Today I returned home to find a letter from Citicard (formerly part of the Shell Scheme), advising me that they were cutting my credit card in accordance with their terms.

They have cut it by over 70% from over £10k to a meagre £3k, plus.... get this the change was effective from today. So I am over the revised credit limit already - was advised from their ICC not to "worry about it" - when I questioned what she meant by not to "worry about it!" she couldnt answer me...... aaaggghhh

Another part of Citi Group and Egg's strategy which has been commented on in the press I feel. This practice is "criminal" and needs to be exposed - penalise UK good customers for their incompetence in lending !!!

Calls to the call centre were next to useless.... whilst they are in their right to cut the credit limit, but over 70% and without any notice..... we are being blamed for their irresponsible lending to US sub prime market... why should we take it..

They say its a policy and as 'responsible lenders' they are reducing it - hardly responsible getting the company into dificulty lending to the sub prime market and then taking it out on customers - I have been with them for over 6 years with no late payments, over the limit or anywhere near it!!!

A letter to the CEO is coming on tonight and to their customer complaint department... and then should I not be satisfied the Financial Ombudsman.. can you tell I am furious !!!
  • I am a Easyjet Mastercard from CITI Group customer. I also got this letter. But first, the end of 2009 they dropped the Easyjet Miles program and converted my card into Platinium. Then, in February 2010 I got a letter saying my limit dropped from 6k to 2k2 and also informing the rates increase. It seems that loads of customers are having the same surprise which is kind of a relief for me. That's nothing wrong with my credit history and I have been paying my balance in full every month. So, the best thing to do, in my opinion, is to close this account and apply for another credit card from other financial group.

    Hi,
Has anybody had any problems using the new platinum card I tried to use it for the first time today but it said incorrect pin so I've just rung them up and he said people have been ringing all day and they are aware of the problem apparently they haven't changed the PIN unless requested but the data hasn't been loaded onto the cards correctly but was told that can still use my old shell card and was given £5 compensation for any inconvienience.

Had exactly the same problem with my Citi platinum mastercard (shell replacement) rang 0870 no to wait on hold for 14 minutes to be told ,it must have been a problem with the retailers machine= 1st lie!

Tried to use card the next day, again old pin not recognised, tried to ring citi , gave up after waiting 22 minutes.

Following day, rang up yet again after 18 minutes got through to their call center, i presume in mumbai to be told they have a problem with their system and will be issuing new pin numbers, should arrive in 7/10 days = 2nd lie!

Guess what now past that dead line and still no new pin no in post.

They are a total incompetent shower, rang again to complain and managed to get a £5 goodwill gesture out of them, but once next statement arrives, i will pay it off if full and cancel my card.
  • I have received a letter saying they are increasing my interest rate to 31.5% I am not happy about it either.
Going to take the option of suspending the account to keep the 26.9% which I am currently paying.

Spent the last 18 months trying to improve my credit score and it has finally paid off :T as I have now been accepted for the Santander card 0% for 12 months on balance transfer,I'm hoping now that the credit limit they give me will cover the Citi balance.

This is the second time i have had this issue, early last year, Barclays formally Morgan Stanley, reduce my limit while i was away in Germany and used my card there. I called them and requested a reason for the reduction. Asked to speak to a manager and would like a review or I will cancel the account. They called me back a week later and increase the limit back. No I just used my Citi Bank credit card for a 400quid purchase and I got the same issue again. Reduced my limit from 6K to 1K. Called them to demand an explanation. Wait to see what they say. I always give them the choice to cancel the account if they cannot re-enstate my credit limit.

Seems like they are doing this to a lot of people, me included. Have been with them for years, never missed a payment and have a good credit report. Took me many attempts to speak to a manager, but a waste of time trying to get any truthful reason for this action, so told them what I thought of their company and closed my account.
Another company hiding behind their terms & conditions.

Did anybody else get the new card from Citi today to cover this? Guess what I did- took the old one out the wallet and showed someone they were identical only then realised I couldn't remember exactly which one was which :o. Will try out to see later tomorrow lol!

They've extended the time for redeeming cashback at Shell by 1 month but not much use since I bought enough fuel do do that earlier last month!
  • i had over £130 cash back earned, but citi refuse to give it to me, as the t+c changed, and i had 2 weeks to spend my cash back each month on SHELL FUEL or it's not refunded!!!

i told them to keep the card and stuff it. they keep changing t+c. also when you dispute, they insist on full payment and when they refund you, no one knows

    AVOID AVOID!!!
