it will be really hard at first but keep going, things like this make us stronger people. and in a few months time you can feel really proud and in control of things;)

Yuk! I hate roll ups! Plus the fact I can't roll them to save my life...
I'm impressed by your commitment to continuing smoking. I wish I could say the same about your commitment to sorting out your finances. You seem to have an answer ready for every suggestion so far. I don't mean to sound harsh, but you have to be prepared to make some changes.

Is there any chance you have been over-taxed in the last tax year? That is sometimes a way of turning up a few hundred £ for very little effort - although since you've been self employed it might be different.

Your SOA is "statement of affairs" basically your monthly outgoings and incomings (which you've already done) and also a list of all your debts with APRs etc.

You already seem to have shaved things to the bone. The only things I could suggest is cutting down the food bill (but its already quite low) or would it be possible to car-share with someone to work?

Right, well my car insurance I pay in full on the credit card each year as with AA & car tax so they're already covered.
    Debt 2007 £17k :(

    Current Debt approx £7.5k :)

Target - to pay off all debts by 2020 :A

Harsh but true, yes I am clinging to the fags like a drowning woman at the moment!

Car sharing is a no sadly, only 5 of us in the office & no one prepared to share even when I suggested it (meanies)
The APRs on my credit cards are 14.5 and 15.5 but my credit rating's not very good at the mo and I'm concerned I'll get refused again if I apply for 0% ones...can anyone advise me on that?

I had a tax rebate of £452 last year and this year I'm going to owe about £90 which is why I'm putting off sending in my self assessment!

  • Who can tell me how the money diary thing works?

I've been told to keep a food diary already because I'm not eating enough & a friend who's a personal trainer wants to keep an eye on me. Maybe I can incorporate the two...?!

Have you thought about switching banks, smile (online bank, part of co-operative group) are currently offering 12 bottles of plonk when you switch over to them, plus you get 12 month fee free overdraft, so that would save you the best part of £10 a month.

Another thing I'd like to ask, and sorry if I'm being too forward here and you can tell me to mind my own business, but exactly why are you a "car crash scene"? Is it through seperating from husband? Or are there other things going on?

I know that not having much money is a serious issue an it stresses me out beyond belief! But I've also found that I have to counter-attack the emotions associated with debt.
I've had a few issues that weren't debt related but still brought me down an awful lot which made everything else seem even worse. The cliff idea in your first post is NOT a good one, so you need to knock that on the head right now. I went through those feelings and it was the slight consideration when the thought entered my mind that I got my wake up call as to what was going on that I wasn't happy with.

If you dont like your job would you consider looking for a new job? Or if the situation is a problem boss is there a path you can go down to challenge that and make it better for yourself?
What business is it you're looking to run? I would possibly have said you're trying to concentrate on too many things at once, which is only going to defeat the object I think.

I also personally think your rent is a bit high, I know I dont know your area, but I'd have thought there must be something cheaper, I live within a big city centre and my rent is cheaper than yours, unless it's an all inc' price in which case I guess it works out quite well. Sorry

I can only echo what people have said previously about quitting smoking. I'm sure it must seem far too daunting especially if you've got other issues going on. I guess you see smoking as a form of relief from all the rest of it. Even if you cant face giving up right now (although personally I couldnt face the actual smoking but thats just a self righteous non smoker talking :))Could you not swap to a cheaper brand of cigareetes or at least try cutting down?

Many people on here are really happy to help, but you have to be willing to help yourself. If thats not the case then theres very little else that can be suggested really. Is it possible to contact your credit card companies and kindly ask for an interest holiday to give you more of a chance to control the balances. I can only add that its imperative that you stop paying for items on the credit card, I was doing that before my actual full blown lightbulb hitting face moment (my first one was just a bit of a glimmer!), and it doesnt help the situation. In some instances it is necessary but just dont get caught up in paying for the every day on borrowed money!

I'm sorry if I'm not very much help but I think its important to start seperating certain instances in your life so you can really start travelling in the direction you want to go

    Best of luck xx

    P.S About the food thing

If you're not looking after yourself properly and eating well then everything else is going to look even worse.

You need a good full balanced meal not only for energy to face the day but for the energy to cope and deal with life situations.

Why are you not eating properly?
