Quicktime and Real Player are media players that require registration in order to fully utilise their features. They also install software that can slow down your pc on bootup and use vital resources such as memory.

To that end alternatives are available for free, they do the same job but without the junk....

Quicktime alternative:

- Quick and easy install
- It's easy to make an unattended installation
- No background processes
- Use a player of your own choice
- Low on resources
- Smaller size

Real Alternative
- Quick and easy install
- It's easy to make an unattended installation
- Proper uninstallation
- No background processes
- Use a player of your own choice
- Low on resources
- No advertising, no registration forms, nothing annoying

download from: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

They use software stolen from the unique versions, so I can't understand why you have posted these items as it's piracy.

Reverse engineering the codecs and distributing them without a license is illegal. Still, given the alternative is to actually install Quicktime/Realplayer... ;)

Yes, real player still works fine without premium services and quicktime will allow you to save qt files if you register (pay for) it.

    Quicktime works fine for free.

I wouldn't touch either proprietary player with a ten foot barge pole, free or otherwise.

I love VLC as it will play just about any audio or video file going. Even some FLAC files I downloaded the other day. Never heard of them before. :o

There are some more freeware media applications here.

So software that is often posted about on reputable sites such as Betanews and Neowin, along with many other recommendations is actually pirated and illegal.

If this was the case i am 100% positive that Apple and Realmedia would have the software company in court in a flash for whatever breaches you are accusing them of.

Please get your facts straight before accusing me of encouraging piracy.

Don't tell me about getting my facts right.

You are posting software that is using codecs from other products.

Even large codec packs are illegal.

So you go get your facts right.
