HI:mad:

JUST MOVED BACK INTO OUR NEWLY RENOVATED HOME. THE COMPLETE HEATING SYSTEM INC RADIATORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. ONLY USE GAS HOB AS WELL AS BOILER. OUR HOUSE IS A SMALL/MED 4 BEDROOM. FULLY DOUBLE GLAZED.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE UNITS USED PER DAY? AT PRESENT WE SEEM TO BE USING 13, OUR NEXT BILL WILL BE MASSIVE????

THE HEATING IS OFF DURING THE MAIN PART OF THE DAY, AND I SWITCH THE THERMOSTAT UP TO 19 FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS DURING THE EVENING THEN TURN IT DOWN TO 16 OVERNIGHT AND DURING THE NEXT DAY. THE WATER IS HEATED JUST TWICE A DAY A COUPLE OF HRS IN THE MORNING AND AFTERNOON.

PLEASE CAN ANY ONE ADVISE US. OUR METER WAS MOVED COULD THAT OF BEEN DAMAGED? THE HEATING SYSTEM HAS BEEN COMMISSIONED.

THANKYOU!:money:

Why do you have a need to keep 16 degrees at night when you are in bed? I have mine set to 5.

  • Just thought that was sensible with two young children. Why have heating at all?

If it has been recently moved then it is probably a metric meter in which case that is low. Even with an imperial meter for four bedrooms that is still reasonable. Why do you think £130 or £360 per month is expensive for 24 hours per day heat in winter???
  • We are/were with edf paying £75 per month dd, just moved to british gas thought we'd better have a look at what we owe edf, a bit of shock £600. Thats why i posted the question to see if that is what the normal is,then of course thats what is to be paid. Just seems extreme.

The national average per month over the year is, as you were paying, in the order of £75 per month or £900 annually (but that includes electricity). That's for the cheapest online tariffs. Standard tariffs could cost £1300 or £1400 for the same consumption.

But you normally use at least three times as much over winter. And, of course, you have four bedrooms and have the heating on 24 hours per day.

(You did use your actual consumption (including arrears) when choosing a new tariff, didn't you? Not just £75 per month?)

(And as you haven't specified what units your poll is asking for it may be of little use.)
  • yes used actual consumption.

We were told to keep the heating on 24hrs using the thermostat and radiator thermostats to get desired heat in each room, these are all at 3 except, 2 vertical rads in lounge are at 6. Should we put the heating on timer as well as water?

Electricity is/was with eon on quarterly bills. Changed to online duel fuel with British gas over the weekend.

Sorry if I seem vague but our old system was old and not working properly, water and heating on 24hrs, so when we decided on the extension and renovation it seem practical to replace the whole system. We thought the bills would be about the same as more energy efficient even though the house is bigger.

(You still haven't mentioned whether you are using imperial or metric units. Imperial units are 2.8 times smaller than metric units!)

Is it just the heating that was changed? That is, the double-glazing is not new? If both systems were on 24 hours a day then I don't think changing the boiler would make that much of a difference - although a new boiler may be more fine-tunable any extra heat from the old boiler or hot water would never be wasted if on constantly.
  • Single fuel gas tariff direct debit is measured in cubic metres. Thats what it says on the Bill.
