  • I'm half a C, but as the property would go to me if my wife was to pass away (GF) and her savings would also pass to me under will/ intestacy if that was not valid, then I can say I'm a C. Not yet 30, but feel wealthy in my own little way- mainly because of my relationships- assets are just something to show to the rest of the world...

I'm not that surprised, but would expect that for most people (like myself) a good percentage of it is actually tied up in the home.

Same here. Most people who have been on the property ladder for a few years will have equity in their property.

I would class myself as D. I'm 25, work for local government so not a huge earner by any means. We do have savings, an OK car and luckily bought a house last year as prices hit 'the rock bottom' stage and have managed to do it up to increase the equity vastly. Only debt is a couple of grand student loan (paid back monthly) and don't have a credit card, no sofas from DFS etc. Only ever bought things when I had the cash available. Hard saving and good budgeting works wonders!

Anyway, this is only cash, I'd much rather be healthy with great relationships and luckily I have these, much more important IMO!

Very British of me perhaps, but I cringed reading some of the responses to this, it seems so undignified as we're a reserved nation with many of us being brought up to not be too 'showy' with our wealth.

I disagree. In my opinion over the last 15 years the UK has become more and more materialistic. There seems to be a great desire to have everything bigger / better / smarter / more expensive (house, car, job, etc.) than everyone else. Having spent two years living in New Zealand a few years ago (where I felt there was a greater focus on the less materialistic aspects of life (health, friends, etc.)) perhaps I notice a contrast more than I did before?

This is also reflected in the increase in the number of "have you had an accident and wish to sue someone" type adverts that we get on TV these days.

    Maybe I'm just a GOM!
