Legal Demand from HM Office for National Statistics>Monthly Business Survey

Hi all,

I recieved a demand this morning for a business I have traded as for nearly thirty years to provide monthly trading data within 7 days of each month end.

Penalties liable under the Statistics of trade act 1947 for non compliance.

Anybody familar with this............ or just my bad luck.

Any thoughts.

I get something similar, asking about my vacancies / recruitment plans, not sure if it's EVERY quarter. I do it, it only takes a minute.

  • Thanks for reply Savvy_Sue,

This is asking for Income/Only Certain allowable Expenditure every month for fifteen months and then they have to give a three year break.

Only a minor inconvience if it were to coincide with my VAT quarter, in fact I could give them permission to access box 9 and 10.

They are demanding every month separately within 7 days of the end of the preceeding month. Essentially demanding a VAT declaration every month within 7 days.

This reminds me of "A Pig Don't Get Fatter the More You Weigh It"

Gee whizz, never had one of these and by the sound of your experience I sincerely hope we never do if it needs to be completed within 7 days of every month-end.
    Just looked up some FAQs:

I've had various types of these forms over the years - from monthly, quarterly and yearly. I ended up just putting in approximate figures. Very approximate at times if I was busy.

EDIT : I often wondered why there was a gap in between receiving these forms. I'll need to have a look at the photocopies I took to see when they are next due.
