Roof Repairs

Hi all
I live in a 1930s end terrace property. Over the past couple of months I've noticed staining of the bedroom ceilings around the chimney breast area. I went into the loft on a rainy day and could see that the diagonal rafters running down from the chminey breast were wet. On looking at the roof from outside with a pair of binoculars I could see that the flashing on the chimneys (x2) was lifted in a couple of places. I guess this is the root cause of the damp.
two questions:
1) Can I claim on the house insurance for this damage?
2) How much cheaper would it be to do the repairs myself? I'm not too keen on getting onto the roof from a ladder so I'd probably get scaffold erected. If I went down this route I might scaffold around the whole three sides of the house and carry out other repairs such as guttering replacement.
I would be grateful for any advice.
cheers

1) Unlikely, insurance will says its wear and tear,
2) The roof is important and not really a DIY repair, having said that a cat ladder will suffice for the chimney, i guess.
Scaffold can be arounf £600-1000 for a terrace so unless you intend to do all the work quickly, then its pricey.
Good luck0
