Honeymoon Help!

Basically, my h2b was in a major car crash (has had 7 operations and now has a metal kneecap and metal shoulderblade amongst many other injuries!) November 2008 and is still recovering slowly but surely....he can drive again but wouldnt want to drive abroad as he is only just regaining his confidence in cars etc.... i hate driving and wouldnt be able to drive abroad! We would LOVE to go to New England but what with h2b not working due to his injuries our finances are WAY to tight to afford that so we are gonna leave it and hope that we might go on our 1yr anniversary...

So, we think we may fancy Italy - we are both sight-seeing touristy types Really lol, and definitely city people cos we like lots of things to see (and also cos we cant stay too far out as we'd have to drive etc!)

My mum & dad went on a coach holiday a few years back and did EXACTLY what we want to do - Rome, Venice and Florence.....it seems a perfect holiday as we could go on excursions if we want but not if we dont, etc , dont have to worry at ALL about the travelling...BUT i have looked and looked and ALL the coach holidays seem to be for retired people.....i dont mean that they seem geared towards old people lol....i mean they are ONLY for pensioners - if you are under 55 you cant go!!! How is that fair?!?!?

I am really worried that this makes me sound like a boring old before my time type, but i am not....its just be perfect for us at the moment!

Anyone know of a solution/company or alternative??

oooh - why is nothing ever easy :(
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

Just google for Europe overland tours.
Explore! do this type of tour, but not in Europe - very popular for African and South American destinations. ;)
  • Thanks - by the way, i possibly didnt make it very clear (typical me lol!) but we dont actually MIND at all having to travel with pensioners LOL....we would quite like it in a way as my partner cant really deal with lots of people jostling him around etc lol.. i just cant seem to find anything that okay, is aimed at oldies (no offence anyone!) but accepts younger ones - i am 28 and he is 32...so not as young as we would like LOL!

    Cruise might work.

A lot easier than coach you only unpack one
  • Hi Cosmos Tourama have some good tours and aren't for just pensioners. Also as getmoreforless says a cruise would be fab too and you would find all ages on there and great entertainment &food along with visting the countries that you want too..
    I am a Travel Agent

My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are L318X. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. ATOL numbers can be checked with the Civil Aviation Authority. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.
  • Second that about the cruise. Really good for all round holiday if you don't like to drive.

I love Italy and think Venice would be my first choice for a honeymoon anyway.

I have had several short breaks in Italy and have always used the local trains, Ryanair flights and connecting buses, never driven at all - and wouldn't drive in Rome if you paid me fortunes or in venice for obvious reasons! (The waterbus is good for getting around there, especially if the steps got too much.)

You don't really say how fit your h2b is now. I found walking in Florence quite moderate, Venice the steps over the bridges could be tiring and Rome I was exhausted from all the walking and my boyfriend had a blister, which he just never gets. I am a little bit down on Rome because it is beautiful and there is lots to see, but I felt it was too big and bustling and feel four days there is long enough in one go. It is amazing and for sure you should go there. I've found most people have a favourite out of the three, and you won't know which yours is until you have been to all three.

I have always booked hotels with a hotel comparison site or Expedia beforehand and bought train tickets as I went along. That has worked out fine, with one problem with a company called venere, when I found the hotel closed. That was maybe a bit more adventerous than joining a coach tour.

I bet if you contacted a company who only had older passengers and explained, they would let you join their tour anyway.

Have a lovely time and be sure to have a bottle of prosecco with your pizza in Venice - tastes much the same as champagne but much cheaper, and ideal for a honeymoon!

Have you tried phoning the companies and asking, it does seem odd that they are only for people over 55. Perhaps if you explain your circumstances they would make an exception?

I have done the same as Pee and travelled a lot of Italy by train, I love everything I have seen so far. I think I loved Rome the most but agree there is just so much to see - we were originally there for 3 nights but didn't manage to leave for a week (Interrailing at the time so it didn't matter!)
