What do I do with my old quilt?

I bought one of the bounce back quilts on offer recently, which means that our double quilt is now surplus to requirements - as the other bedroom alreday has a quilt and we haven't got the space to store it. Although the old quilt is ripping a little, the lining seems to be intact. It's a felt-type lining so the oSer in me feels that I *should* be able to do something with it.
Any ideas? I was thinking I could make a draught excluder but this would involve getting pretty material from somewhere as I don't have anything suitable. Or could I make cushion covers and stuff them with it? Again, purchase of material necessary. And I am an amateur at sewing!!
I am grateful for any suggestions.

Hi Tara, you could use an old quilt to cover windows to keep out the drafts. For a dog bed. Sit on it on the grass in the garden when we have some summer. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Put it under your sheet for an extra soft layer, and a bit of extra heat in the winter cold. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Do you have pets? You could cut it up and use it as pet bedding. I donated one to my local dog rescue who use them to line the cages.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I have no pets princessleah. I like the under-sheet option though, and am still pondering the cushion idea (OH thinks I am mad, he doesn't really 'get' OS but I *will* convert him ha ha).Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

I'd second (third?) the under sheet idea. If the mattress on the spare bed is a bit unforgiving - as many spare mattresses are - then an old quilt on top of it can make all the difference. If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?0

I like a nice hard mattress!!! :rotfl:
Well, the mattress idea certainly seems to be popular! Will try it later, it can stay there out of the way for now anyway and then I can always perfect my sewing skills and put it to good use some other time xoGet to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

If you have any animal rescue centres near by they might appreciate it. I know the one I got my bunny from is always thankful for old bedding & towels0

I wouldn't use it to revive a worn out mattress as it is important that the mattress gives you good support.0 -
My mattress is brand new! Would this make it less supportive?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs
