I'd consider writing a letter of complaint. It probably won't change anything, but it might help the next victim.

Concealed officers (not best practice), not adhering to ACPO speed guidelines.. it's all quite shocking really.

Worth a try, as you say won't change anything this time. I was once given a parking ticket, for parking on double yellows at my local cashpoint at midnight, by 2 Police Officers who were waiting/hiding in a shop doorway. I complained but was told "the police can gather evidence in any way they want". I got the impression the inspector wasn't impressed by his officers action, so MAY have made a difference.
  • Definitely pompey. What you get told in a letter of response and what happens behind that letter are two very different things. ;)

Or slow down and observe the rules of the road??

Not best practice? Sounds like pretty efficient practice to me - they caught the OP didn't they?

Oh, and ACPO guidelines =! The Law
"There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn
  • I think that advice goes without saying.

I'm not defending the OP, but working on the other side of this issue, guidelines are there for a reason and everyone should adhere to them.

And I was pulled over Lee. I was especially annoyed as the police were by the side of the road, but behind a kind of wall so you couldn't see them till it was too late. I've always thought there was a 10% plus 2 up until now. Oh well.

    Thanks anyway

Similar to the child that you wouldn't have been able to brake in time for.

I must admit though you're very unlucky to get tugged at those speeds. I always thought it was 10%+2 and even then it is officers discretion.

I think you will be better off paying the fine now instead of going to court in case they slap a whole host of other charges on top.

The 10%+2 "rule" is largely a myth. If you're speeding, you're speeding. End of story. Some police forces have a zero tolerance to speed and when you consider that cars have speedos that "overread" then the OP must have been doing a good 36-37mph indicated speed or perhaps even more.

Suppose someone knocked over and killed your kid in a 30 zone and said "I was only driving at 35 mph, honest!" what would you think of them?

I dont know where you get this from, in such circumstances we are all guilty of speeding even though our speedo states 30 mph and are liable to be fined, if that is the case and true then the 10% rule would allow for such inaccuracies and should be adopted country wide.
Speed guns have also been known to be inacurate.

    But they didnt.

Speeding is not good I am not suggesting its ok.

Please name and SHAME the police force that has done this to you.

Also feel free to ignore all the dumb people. Especially the one who said your speedo "must" have been reading 36-37mph for you to be doing 34mph. He's extra stupid.
