completing deal outside ebay (as seller)?

I'm selling some vouchers on ebay, I listed them as seperate auctions. A buyer offered to buy two vouchers as a buy it now - the price is acceptable and "I said ok - but what do I do now? " I suggested changing one auction to be for two vouchers and put on a buy it now for the price she suggested and cancelling the other auction - I thought that would keep the fees as low as possible. But I didn't know if ebay would let me do that? Now she has offered to buy three and pay directly via paypal, outside of ebay, and I could cancel three auctions. What are the risks - can paypal cancel the payment for any reason, so I would be left with no vouchers and no money? Or are all the risks on the buyer's side? I'm sending special next day delivery to ensure they are safe in the post.
Any advice would be welcome.

Do not sell out of ebay as you will not be protected by Paypal's seller protection system. The buyer could just do a chargeback after she has paid and would be left with both the money and the vouchers. You would not be able to complain to ebay about this, and to get your money back would have to take the buyer to court, which would be a lot of hassle.

Also if you agree to sell outside of ebay you are breaking ebay's rules and could have your account suspended, so wouldn't be able to sell anything else. Cancelling lots of auctions for no reason would make ebay suspicious as well.

Personally I would put individual buy-it-now prices on each auction and let her know so she can be first in to get them, or just let the auctions run their course. This obviously depends on whether you think you would get the same or a better amount by letting the auction finish.

Thank you, I'm contacting the buyer to tell her this.

I'm afraid your wrong here Paypal seller protection outside ebay is very similar as long as you follow it you would be covered against such a scenario Link HERE Sellers are actually better protected than buyers as a buyer cannot claim for a SNAD off ebay

Just as a byline paypal buyer protection has recently been improved link HERE
  • if you get them to send you it as a gift outside of ebay then you will be ok

Did you read the links? They will be covered anyway just as they are on ebay. Also asking a buyer to send you money as a gift is a favourite trick of scammers and will make you look very dodgy
  • Thanks for your help - we completed the deal through ebay to be on the safe side. She paid all the postages and we reduced the buy it nows to compensate to save a few pence. I've now had an email saying paypal is holding onto the money for 21 days - is this a new thing for all transactions or only over a certain amount? I've not had this before.

    Unfortunately for ebay that's baloney.

Regardless of where the transaction take place paypal 'security' is unaffected - obviously you have to follow procedures to be covered buy their protection.

As for getting banned for completing sales outside of ebay. If that was the case I would be banned 5000 times over.
