I had rats in my daleks, I bought metal small mesh from Wilkinson's, think is is for hamster cages & the like

I used two layers, so the holes do not line up, and took it up the sides and tied off with wire, so far so good, but only started reusing bins end of August, so time will tell

I had poisoned the blighters as well, Rentokill poison also from Wilko

PS, next is an air rifle if all else fails

we use the air rifle method, with a lazer attached, i personally think this is quick and humane, i hate using poison, even though i really flipping hate wild rats they die a cruelling painfull death if you use poison, also with leaving poison down you will find birds and other small mammals will eat some too

  • I don't think that the issue is strictly cooked/uncooked food. I've always put cooked vegetable matter onto our compost heap, but not if it's been contaminated with meat or other animal products. Those make the compost smell horrible and I'm sure that attracts rats etc.
If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?

Hi, on a gardening programme I saw once, it was advised that you place your bin somewhere that you go past often as rats etc don't like to be disturbed & also suggested that you kick or bash it as you walk past, in case one's trying it out for size.
